NOTE: If you have any information on these MIA's, please reply! To these family members any information, no matter how trivial, is important. For the most part, these are the children of our comrades who are desperate for a link to their father's past. Their father's were shot down in combat before they had an opportunity to know them. This information will help provide comfort and closure to these relatives. They already know their fathers were heroes, now they need to know more about their personal lives. No matter what your recollection of these men might be (whether it be having a beer or going to the BX with them), PLEASE RESPOND.

POW/MIA Ceremony

From Patty Hooper tfoinc@inficad.com   13 March 2001

Robert,

My name is Patty Hopper and I am the stepmother of Lt. Col. Earl P. Hopper, Jr. who was an F4 pilot with the 13th TFS out of Udorn. He was shot down 10 January 1968 near the North Vietnamese/Lao border.

According to documents we have, "an F4C out of Ubon" overflying the area of loss picked up his beeper, gave Earl's authenticator code and asked for 15-second intervals - he received several in response. We're trying to locate the crew of that F4C and/or anyone else who can help us.

The record is a little unclear whether this incident happened on the 11th or 12th of January. We also know his beeper was heard for a number of days after this contact.

I'm attaching a link to our organization's web site where you'll find Earl's bio posted. In it you'll find his loss coordinates and a host of other information. On our site you will also find bios for a number the 8th TFW's POW/MIAs.  We have over 1000 bios up now and more are added regularly. www.taskforceomegainc.org

We would appreciate any help you can give us in located the crew of the F4C. Know that we are here to assist you, too.

By the way, your site is awsom!

Faith,

Patty Hopper

ANYONE who knew Major Roger O. Clemens KIA Sept. 18,1968
I am looking for anyone who knew my father. He was flying an F4 when it veered from the runway at Ubon and crashed. His copilot, Peter Nash, ejected to safety. The information we have surrounding his death is sketchy, at best. I would like to tell my children about the grandfather they will never know. To me, he is our family's hero. I would like to pass the legacy he left on to my children.

Subject: Maj Harland Davis, KIA 7 July 1972
Dear Sirs,
I am seeking information from anyone who may have served with my wife's father, Major Harland Davis, from Bridgeton, NJ. MAJ Davis was KIA on July 7,1972, shortly after being assigned to the 435th TFS (Eagle Flight), 8th TFW (Wolfpack) at Ubon, RTAFB. Harland was attempting to land in a heavy rainstorm at 0105 while returning from a night operation. Also KIA was 1LT Fred Koss, his WSO. The Squadron Commander who send the letter of condolences was LTC Richard Martin and the Casualty Assistance Officer assigned to handle MAJ Davis' affairs at Ubon was MAJ Jim Varnum.
Prior to deployment to the 435th, MAJ Davis transitioned through the 4535 CCTS, 35th TFW at George AFB, CA.
Previously, Harland had served with the 1st Air Commando Squadron in 1965 where he flew 283 combat missions in the A1E.
Listed below (as reconstructed from MAJ Davis' personnel file) are the units (and time frames) in which he served:
Date    Squadron        AC     Station
'57    Flight School    Greenville AFB, MS
'57    Flight School    Luke AFB, AZ
'58-'61 493d TFS, 48th TFW    F100    Chaumont AB, France
'62    493d TFS, 48th TFW    F100     Lakenheath AB, England
'62-'64 355th TFS, 354 TFW    F100    Myrtle Beach AFB, NC
'65    602d FS(C), 1st ACS    A1E    Qui Nhon, RVN
'66-'67 Staff                 Bergstrom AFB, TX
'67-'68 FAC, 5th Inf Div        Ft Carson, CO
'69-'70 4463 TASG        ?    Shaw AFB, SC
'70-'71 ALO, 171st Inf Bde    Ft Wainwright, AK
'72    435th TFS, 8th TFW    F4    Ubon, RTAFB
Any information regarding Harland, the units he served in (whether Harland was known or not), or the planes he flew will be greatly appreciated.
In closing, I'd like to leave all who served and sacrificed with the words of
John Stuart Mill.
War is a ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriaotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
May God bless all who served. Thank you for your sacrifices.

Subject: Thomas E. Gillen, MIA out of Ubon 2/18/70
I'm wondering if *anyone* out there might have known my father, Thomas E. Gillen, an F-4D driver with the 435th who went MIA on February 18, 1970 on a strike against Route 7, in Eastern Laos.
My father ejected his navigator, Robert S. Dotson, who was fortunately rescued later that day, yet a chute was never sighted for my dad.
I'm especially looking for the other men in his flight that day. They were: BANYAN flight: Thomas C. Lowry, Stanley J. Miller, Charles M. Gibson, Louis K. Obdyke,Thomas H. Lewter, George A. Barnes.
Of course, I'd like to talk with *anyone* who knew my father, even if you knew him only from the O'club or BX. If you didn't know him, would you perhaps know of someone from that time and place who might have?
I realize this is a long shot, but if you happen to have *any* information, my family and I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, in advance. Tom Gillen

I am looking for information. My father, Capt. James E. Steadman flew a phantom F4D with the 497 TFS, 8TFW (Night Owls) out of Ubon, Thailand. He was listed as MIA 26 Nov 1971.
Being that I really never knew him, I am interested in trying to find people who worked with him, in order to get some more insight as to who he was. Can you give me some leads as to where I may try looking?

Subject: L/C Harold W. "Duke" DuKett
I am searching for anyone who may have known my dad, name L/C Harold W. "Duke" DuKett, who was first at Ubon and then 432nd TRW while at Udorn in 1967 and 1968, with the Triple Nickel squadron, from 10/67 to 10/68. He was a "River Rat", having flown 102 missions over N. Vietnam in that duration, in his beloved F-4s. 432nd TRW while at Udorn in 1967 and 1968
My dad passed away in 1981, having served thirty years with the USAF as a fighter pilot, of which I am very proud. I have contacted people with the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association, but so far have had no luck locating anyone who may have known Dad, although everyone there has been extremely helpful in circulating my request for contact from anyone who may have known or flown with him. I hope you can assist and that someone in your realm of communication will recognize the name and perhaps share some anecdotes about my dad. He was my hero and my best friend and I miss him very much. He was full of life and always charging through life with his hair on fire. Could you assist me in my quest? Thank you very much for your assistance.

Can anyone help? Joseph Y. Echanis, 497th TFS.... Contact: JOHN & VICTORIA WALLACE <wallace@e-zone.e-z.net>
My father is MIA over Laos in 1969. His name is Joseph Y. Echanis. He was a Night Owl in 497th TFS, stationed at Ubon. The night he went down, he was marking targets for 2 Navy attack aircraft. I was wondering if your organization could help me find the two pilots of those aircraft. If so, I will provide you with as much information as I can about the mission that night. Thanks, Victoria

I am interested in anyone who might have known Patrick E. Wynne from the 555th TFS. He was initially listed MIA August 8, 1966 and subsequently listed KIA on that date after many years. I am his younger brother and was 10 years old when Pat went down. I am looking for any background, photos, etc. that you might be interested in sharing with me. I am particularly interested in the tail number, markings, and co-pilot of the F-4 C he was flying when he went down. Thank you for a great web page.

I am in the process of doing a web site for my father Colonel Gary G. Wright USAF, MIA 1-17-67 NVN case #0570. He was flying an RF4-C, SN# 65-888, call sign "gigilo", with the 11th TRS out of Udorn along with Major Fred Wozniak. They never returned from a mission 18 miles SW of Hanoi and no other information has ever appeared on either.
If anyone reading this knew my father, I would appreciate it if you wrote me. He also was a pilot in the Korean War, flying an F-86. Also, if anyone has any pictures of Vietnam Era RF4-Cs, I would appreciate it if you could send them to me.
Thanks for any help, Gary G. Wright Jr.

I am seeking any information about my father, 1/LT Richard Brazik, formerly of the 8th TFW, 433rd TFS; initially MIA on 07-26-67 and presumed KIA on 10-13-73. He may have been posth. promoted to Captain, with date-of-rank from 05-13-67,  I have a photo of him with 'Railroad Tracks' on his flight suit. He may have been flying F-4C #FG-659 at the time. I would be very grateful for any photos, or information at all, no matter how slight, as I never knew my dad.
Sincerely, Richard J. Brazik
