Sewer Doers
From Norman Fogg, 433rd TFS, class of 68', comes this interesting story about a group of 433rd pilots who became known as "Sewer Doers."
This select group of 433rd pilots was chosen to fly exclusively night missions in order to interdict enemy truck convoys and to baby-sit the C-130 Spectre Gunships.
After one particular interesting night mission, a bunch of the drivers were sitting around discussing night flying and all that went with it. Bill Stroud, then a Lt. Col. and Operations Officer of the 433rd, mentioned that, "flying at night was like being in a sewer."
This statement stimulated the mind of Capt. Gail Peck to such an extent, that he designed the first "Sewer Doer" patch. He later went to Clark AB, PI and had plaques made for the original four 433rd night flyers.
